A herd of cows caused a traffic alert in Brighton at lunchtime today (Saturday 30 August).
Up to 40 cows were reported to be in Roedean Way, Brighton, near Roedean Road.
Sussex Police said: “About 40 cows escaped, heading towards Marine Drive.”
Marine Drive is the busy A259 seafront road which runs along the clifftop by Brighton Marina and Roedean School.
The force said that a farmer from nearby Coombe Farm rounded up the wandering bovines.
The first 999 call came in shortly after midday and Sussex Police said the road was cleared by 12.40pm.
An officer said: “When this sort of things happen we usually give the nearest farmer a call and he usually goes and gets them.”
While no reason was given for the cows hitting the highway, livestock escapes are more likely when gates are left open.
