Portslade parents have just four days to recruit a lollipop lady – or man – after successfully campaigning for the post to be funded.
Parents of pupils at St Peter’s School lobbied Brighton and Hove City Council to fund a school crossing patrol, which was finally agreed today.
But there are just four days left to recruit someone before the new school year starts.
Westbourne councillor Graham Cox published an email from campaigners on his blog today which read: “We are down to the 11th hour!
“School starts next week and the council have just confirmed St Peter’s will get a crossing patrol.
“Unfortunately the official person who writes the job postings has not done it even though the job is on offer.”
The council’s website states there are no special qualifications required other than a commitment to carry out their duties reliably with care for the children and due regard to other road users.
Training and uniforms are provided, and the starting salary is £7.45 an hour, with typical working hours of 30 to 60 minutes in the morning and afternoon.
