A council contractor has been caught in the act blocking access by parking on a pavement.
The Wettons van was snapped this morning parking opposite the toilet block in Black Lion Street.
It was promptly reported to the council by the @Spaces4Disabled Twitter account which said: “Council Contractor no respect for wheelchair users by blocking the pathway @BrightonHoveCC #ThinkDisability
A spokeswoman for Wettons said while drivers were given special dispensation to park on double yellow lines for a limited time to clean toilet blocks, they were not meant to park on the pavement.
She added she would track the vehicle and speak to its driver.
“It’s quite a tight area so they may have been trying to keep out of the way of cars, but it’s not acceptable to mount the pavement.”
The entirety of Preston Street seems to have been given “special dispensation” as well to have people park on double yellow lines and the pavement. The cycle lane on Lewes Road too. And the double-yellow-no-loading stripes at the side of Waitrose. And let’s not forget Elm Grove.
I’ve written to the Council several times asking how I too might be given “special dispensation” to park on double yellows and the pavement with impunity, as it would save me a fortune in tickets, but as yet they have declined to answer.

Surely as a Council Contractor it would be easier to give them access to the Underground Car Park or would they find it too difficult to walk that little Extra?K.I.S.S.
