Staff at Brighton and Hove’s busiest hospital are being offered help and training to improve the care that they provide for blind and deaf patients.
A workshop has been scheduled for staff at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, in Eastern Road, Brighton.
It will be held on Tuesday 30 September at nearby Sussex House, in Abbey Road. The building used to be Pearson House when it was occupied by the charity St Dunstan’s which is now known as Blind Veterans UK and which also has premises in Ovingdean.
The full-day workshop will be led by dual sensory specialist Nikola Fieldhouse, from Brighton.
Sherree Fagge, chief nurse at Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs the Royal Sussex, wrote to staff about the workshop.
She said: “It will help give you an insight into what it is like for deaf/blind patients to be in our hospital and ways we can improve their care so I would encourage as many of you as possible to attend.”
