A councillor thrown out of the Green group says she is considering standing as an independent candidate against Caroline Lucas in Brighton Pavilion.
Christina Summers became an independent councillor for the Hollingdean and Stanmer ward after being ejected from the party on Brighton and Hove City Council for making a speech opposing gay marriage because of her Christian faith.
This week she said on Twitter that she may now stand against Caroline Lucas – the Green party’s only MP – in next year’s general election.
@CoxGraham Been wondering about standing as independent PPC for Brighton Pavilion. What do you think about that then?!
— Christina Summers (@Cllr_Christina) August 19, 2014
Her comments were addressed to fellow councillor Graham Cox, who has just been selected to contest the Hove seat for the Conservatives. Cllr Cox replied:
@Cllr_Christina good luck to you. Obviously we agree and disagree constantly but I admire your commitment to public service — Graham Cox (@CoxGraham) August 19, 2014
The Green Party’s Hove parliamentary candidate, Christopher Hawtree, also welcomed the news, saying:
@Cllr_Christina @CoxGraham And why not? It’s democracy. And footsteps. Knee-joints. Pub. Late-night pasta. And, for me 2011, @GeorgeHarrison
— Christopher Hawtree (@chrishawtree) August 19, 2014
However, the deal is far from sealed. Cllr Summers was quick to add: “I emphasise “wondering”. I’d love to but someone very rich needs to give me some of their money…quick!”
Well, I’m sure she wouldn’t lose her deposit, as the anti-gay vote is really strong in Brighton Pavilion…

Good luck to her; anybody would be better at representing Brighton Pavillion than the awful, odious ‘5 Homes’ Lucas

If you look on http://www.theyworkforyou.com you’ll see Lucas has an impressive parliamentary record, speaking in debates every week, tabling amendments, putting forward loads of written questions etc etc
This is in stark contrast to her predecssor Lepper, who you make about one novelty comment on Cyprus in the chamber per season, before presumably tootling off there on a junket.

Ah – the green party – totally in favour of diversity as long as you conform!
Green party respect for other people’s beliefs – forget about it – as long as it is not against a minority where the thought police will get upset and you must appear to be politically correct.
So as long as you are a pro-diversity, are anti-capitalist and ideally strongly left-wing, are anti-war, are pro-feminism, are pro-drugs, are non-religous and ‘theoretically’ want to protect the environment you can join the green.
If you are part of the silent majority, or are fed-up with being told by arrogant self-righteous geniuses on what to think, or think it is right to defend our country and support our armed forces, or are more concerned about equality for either sex, or think drugs need to be controlled, or are religious in any form and have your own beliefs, then make sure you vote for ANY other party than the greens.
Yes feline1 – High Priestess Lucas may well have an impressive parliamentary record of voting on various policies according to your link – however as far as I remember she spent most of her time promoting feminist issues (such as page 3), supporting shooting galleries for addicts, and sitting in the road at Balcombe.

Ah yes, the silent majority. So silent that it waffles on for four paragraphs.

@Clive – ah yes – and the green party supporters who can’t seem to say anything constructive or intelligent.
I missed out the requirement to ideally be self-righteous, arrogant and naive – I imagine HJarrs will be back from his day-care centre soon…

@Gerald Wiley – I would like to engage intelligently but you just offer a shouty litany of abuse. What is the point of that?
I am sure some green supporters are self-righteous, arrogant and naive. As are quite a few Tories, Labourites … etc.

Well I must say I disagree with Caroline Lucas on the Page 3 issue: I love looking a picture of ladies’ b00bs.
But other than that, she’s had a brilliant first term. Special respect to her for getting arrested at Balcombe. One of the best acts by an MP since Bernadette Devlin slapped the Home Secretary!

Cllr Christina, in contrast, appears to be a willfully unrepentant loon, who still to this day cannot accept that discriminating against the gays might be a bit wrong.

Clive,
Have you noticed how our friend Gerald always complains about others being insulting? No? Me neither.

@HJarrs – what insults?
I thought you were proud of being ‘pro-diversity, anti-capitalist, strongly left-wing, anti-war, pro-feminism, and pro-drugs’? I thought you said that you had to be communistic to be green?
Did you get all upset because I called Lucas a High Priestess?
Or was it because I said you were ‘self-righteous, arrogant and naive’?
In the write-up in the independent about his forthcoming departure, Kitty-cat was said to be ‘naive’ and who but a ‘self-righteous, arrogant’ person would write papers on his web-site discussing his views on subjects and inviting people to read them? How about proper debates?
What a sensitive group you are – obvious not of suitable calibre to run a council or have any MPs – yes – I suggest you go for the sympathy vote instead.
Vote green – because we don’t like people calling us names!

Gerald, your views would carry more weight if you were an actual resident, rather than one of these tiresome sock-puppets which political parties draft in to ‘engage with social media’ taking care to include at least 4 bullet points from your briefing-script in each post.
Do you really think you convince anyone?
Your apparatchik intern bleatings are about as convincing as an email from the late Dr Odingas of the Nigerian Oil Ministry who urgently requires to transfer $10,000.000 to my account via Western Union.

Wiley, what on earth is communistic?
I fear it is you that comes over as touchy, one only has to read one of your posts to come this conclusion, but I always find it amusing that you slag off me, others, Greens then whine about the mildest rebuke.

@feline1 – hate to destroy your misconceptions. I’ve lived in Brighton and Hove for my entire life and are not directly affiliations to any political party.
I do just loathe the green party and what they have done to the city.
And I just love the way the green faithful are coming together to rubbish Christina 🙂
@Simon Eden – They may have made some improvements to the London Road / Lewes Road area (for loyal germ supporters) but for the rest of the city they have done sweet FA – bar sticking a few 20mph signs up that must vehicles ignore.
@HJarrs -just keep up the bilge production – you are a great advert to the lack of charm and charisma required to be a green party fanboy. Has Ben Duncan been giving you lessons?

Brighton in Nigeria?
I am not a member of the Green Party (and neither is Christina… as she was EXPELLED, loool)
The 20mph signs are largely ignored as they are not enforced by Sussex Police… that’s hardly surprising, as the police in this country have been politicised and used as agents against environmentalists, arresting them, spying on them, fathering children by them, etc etc.

@feline1 – the police told anti-car Davey that 20mph zones had to be self-policing and the council intention was to only drop average speeds to 25 mph so it was never a true limit.
Davey ignored this and ‘carried on regardless’; religiously extending the 20 mph zones; and after 2 years putting up flashing signs to check speeds and threaten that speed cameras are being used.
Perhaps Davey could prove details of ANY road user that had been fined for traveling at over 20 mph in a 20mph zone – apart from the Quick Fit fitter doing 70mph up Elm Grove.
The limits are almost totally ignored by council vehicles, buses, commercial vehicles and other motorists because, IMHO, they are in the wrong places, are poorly signed, and the necessary traffic calming was not implemented.
If they’d put 20 mph zones around areas where it is needed with the appropriate signage and traffic calming then I would totally support.

Gerald, you really must engage your brain and stop just parroting stuff that doesn’t even make sense from your “engaging with social media” script.
Since when has there been a concept on English Law that “Laws must be self-policing”? Sussex Police are supposed to be hear to uphold the law impartiality without fear or favour. The law is passed by democratically elected bodies, the police are not within their remit to disregard it and declare they won’t enforce it. To do otherwise is sedition.
But you are correct: as far as am aware, they have only issued a single ‘speeding ticket’ since the 20mph zones were introduced.
What next – the law on burglary must be “self-enforcing”? The law on murder?
Personally I would introduce mandatory tachographs in all B&HCC’s licensed taxis, that would eradicate about 80% of the speeding in one fell swoop, and make are roads a damn sight safer.

@feline1 – I have engaged my brain. Which part of your anatomy do you use?
I am only repeating comments made by the police and the city council transport department when the speed limits were introduced.
Perhaps we need to install lots more speed cameras? Perhaps we need to employ a lot more police? Oh no – we are going through a period of austerity and having to make cuts!
Only a group of idiots would introduce new speed limits and not ensure that the policing (carrot and stick) was in place at the same time.
And yes – we have to protect ourselves from burglars – do you leave your doors unlocked? Do you have a burglar alarm?
