The Brighton Station piano has delighted musicians and commuters alike – but it seems that the station’s own gate staff are a little less enamoured of it.
The piano was installed by the Labour’s parliamentary candidate for Hove, Peter Kyle, last month, using a piano donated by the Brighton Piano Warehouse.
Since then, scores of talented – and not so talented – pianists have tinkled its ivories.
But on many occasions, the piano has been locked, disappointing those who hoped to have a go.
And today, it has been moved so that it no longer causes disturbance to the gate staff – but it will still remain inside the station.
Phew, piano apparently staying, just relocation as staff finding it hard to hear excuses from fare dodgers!

Walked into Brighton Station worried for a minute the piano had gone but luckily it’s just been moved @TeamPeterKyle pic.twitter.com/E7kjuu8GYK — Bright Green Penguin (@BrightGrPenguin) August 22, 2014
The Twitter user @BrightGrPenguin has been keeping a close eye on the piano, tweeting pictures and videos of it being played.
Here’s a YouTube video they shot of it being played before it was moved.

If Southern are really worried about excess noise in the station, why don’t they allow the food stalls at the front to plug into their electricity supply, rather than forcing them to using really noisy portable generators? GENIUS!
