Travellers who set up camp on Surrenden Field were moved on by police after antisocial behaviour yesterday and banned from the city for three months.
Yesterday, Sussex Police issued a notice under section 62 under the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 to some of the travellers who moved into the park off the A23 London Road on Thursday (7 August).
These notices can be issued only after anti-social behaviour, and the travellers were given the choice of either moving to the Horsdean transit site or leaving Brighton and Hove for three months.
They chose to leave the city, and the remaining ones left of their own accord.
Another encampment at Stanmer Park this morning (Saturday 9 August) was moved on swiftly by police who issued a Section 61 order, as events are taking place there this weekend.
These were not the same travellers who had left Surrenden Field.
