Thousands took part this morning’s Brighton Pride parade and thousands more lined the streets to watch.
The mayor of Brighton and Hove, Councillor Brian Fitch, led the procession sporting a jazzy shirt and carrying a multi-coloured Union Jack.
The police, fire brigade, ambulance service, NHS and many local businesses and charities took part.
There was a party atmosphere, but the serious theme of the parade, ‘Freedom to Live’, was highlighted by activists, among them veteran LGBT rights campaigner Peter Tatchell, carrying placards listing the 76 countries, including many of the Commonwealth nations, where it is still illegal to be gay.
