East Sussex Fire and Rescue received almost 300 calls as a result of this morning’s hail and thunderstorms.
Chief Fire Officer and Chief Executive, Des Prichard, took the opportunity to thank staff for their hard work.
He said: “This morning shows how varied our work can be and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all staff who were involved in such a swift and effective response.
“In particular I would like to highlight the efforts of the staff at the Sussex Control Centre, which handles emergency calls for both East and West Sussex Fire & Rescue Services. We have already received messages of thanks from the public and I would like to repeat my own thanks for your hard work.”
Hove and Portslade were worst hit, with Trafalgar Street under water, the Clarendon Estate flooded and King’s House closed because of water in the basement threatening the electricity boards.
Those unable to return to their flooded homes, including the basements in King’s Gardens between Grand Avenue and Third Avenue, will be housed at Hove Town Hall.
