Water features at two of Brighton’s most popular playgrounds have been drying up as the summer holidays begin in the middle of a heatwave.
The fountains at the Level have been experiencing technical problems all year, and the paddling pool at the West Pier playground was closed for a couple of days after water levels plummeted.
The switch-on of the Level fountains was delayed until the grand opening ceremony on 14 June and since then, running times have been limited to just four hours a day.
A statement on the Brighton and Hove City Council website says: “We are still experiencing technical issues with the fountains, and unfortunately have had to limit their running times.
“We are working hard to resolve these problems, and soon hope to have the fountain running for extended periods between 11am and 5.30pm each day throughout the school summer holidays.”
The West Pier pool was closed earlier this week because of leaks. A council spokesman said: “The seafront paddling pool was drained for a day or so to allow the rubber-crumb surface to be repaired. It has now been repaired and refilled.”
