Lightning struck a house in Portslade, setting it on fire in the early hours of this morning (Friday 18 July).
Those living in the house made it out safely as thunderstorms rumbled and lightning lit up the area.
The Met Office said that there were more 3,000 lightning strike across the south east overnight.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said that two fire engines from Hove were sent to an address in Mile Oak Road, Portslade, shortly before 2am to reports of a house alight.
The fire service said: “Crews used main jets and breathing apparatus to tackle the fire in the bungalow.
“After the fire was out, they spent time cutting away and damping down before assisting with salvage.
“There are no reports of injuries.”
Within a few minutes of the lightning strike a fire crew was also sent to tackle flooding at a property in Hove.
