Firefighters were called out to deal with a kitchen fire in Brighton, prompting East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service to issue a safety reminder.
The fire service said that crews from Preston Circus in Brighton were called to tackle the blaze after reports of a fire alarm going off at about 8.15pm on Wednesday (25 June).
The crews went to the student flats in Tillstone Close, Moulsecoomb, close to Moulsecoomb Station, where the small fire damaged the pan and the cooker.
They used a CO2 extinguisher to put out the fire and an industrial fan to clear the smoke.
The fire service urged people to cook safely and issued a number of tips including
- Don’t get distracted while cooking
- Take pans off the heat or turn down the heat if called away, for example, to take a phone call
- Be careful if wearing loose clothing as it can catch fire easily
- Don’t cook after drinking alcohol or taking prescription drugs that cause drowsiness or a loss of concentration
