A candlelit vigil is being held this evening (Friday 9 May) to raise awareness of the 240 missing Nigerian girls who were kidnapped from their school.
Dozens are expected to gather for the silent vigil at the war memorial in Old Steine, Brighton, at 7.30pm.
It is hoped that the vigil will keep the issue in people’s minds while showing support to those leading the search in the west African country.
The girls were abducted from their school more than three weeks ago by the Islamist group Boko Haram – which translates as western education is a sin.
The group’s leader has since threatened to sell the girls.
American President Barack Obama intervened this week and offered US support to the campaign to Bring Back Our Girls.
And the Green MP for Brighton Pavilion, Caroline Lucas, also wore a red ribbon on Question Time on BBC TV last night as a sign of solidarity.
