A bogus caller told an elderly man he was from the gas board to gain entry to his house and steal £230.
At about 1.20pm on Sunday 27 April, the suspect knocked on the door of a 73-year old man in Elm Grove, Brighton, and told the victim that he was from the gas board and that he was owed money.
He then entered uninvited, and asked the victim repeatedly for money, while searching around the home. When he found some £230 he took it and left.
The suspect is described as white, about 6ft 2in to 6ft 3in, in his early twenties, with short light brown hair, wearing a light blue t-shirt, dark trousers and carrying a clip board. He was also described as quite obviously having a cold at the time.
PC Heather McDonald of the Brighton Priority Crime Unit said; “If anyone knows who this man is, or saw a man matching this description in Elm Grove on Sunday afternoon, please contact us right away on 101 or email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk quoting serial 667 of 27/4.
“This was a despicable theft, and we need to find this man to prevent him stealing from other people.
“We also remind residents not to engage with cold callers and keep them out.”
