Over 8,500 competitors completed the 5th Brighton Marathon with William Chebor, from Kenya, winning the men’s race in a course record time of 2:09:25.
Alice Milgo won the women’s race in 02:35:33.
Thousands of pounds were raised for charities from the Robert Eaton Memorial fund to The Cystic Fibrosis Trust.
For the first time a 10k race preceded the main event allowing runners of varying abilities to take part.
Two of these were Sharon Fenton and Karen Weller both 44 and old school friends from Hove. They are members of the Hove Hornets running club. both finished in 56 minutes with Weller beating Fenton by one second.
The Brighton Marathon, including associated races such as the children’s Mini Mile, has become one of the major events of the year in Brighton and Hove.
