The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for Brighton and Hove with more than 8in of rain forecast to fall over 24 hours.
The rain had already started pouring this morning (Saturday 24 August) and was forecast to become heavy again overnight.
The Met Office warning urged people to be aware with the possibility of local flooding affecting parts of Sussex.
The rain is expected to clear by lunchtime tomorrow (Sunday 25 August) with the cloud lifting in time for a sunny Bank Holiday Monday (26 August).
Clear skies, a light breeze and temperatures of up to 78F (26C) are forecast for Monday and Tuesday (27 August).
