A burglar wielding a golf club was thwarted by a 41-year-old man in his home in Brighton.
He managed to push the burglar out of his house in Stephens Road, Hollingdean, late on Tuesday night (26 March).
After confronting the burglar and ejecting him, the man dialled 999.
Sussex Police said that officers searched the area but did not find the suspect.
The suspect was described as Asian, 22 to 23 years old, 5ft 8in tall, of slim build and with short black hair and long thick sideburns.
He was wearing a waist-length black duffle-type jacket with a large hood and dark trousers.
Detective Constable Brad Lozynski, from Brighton and Hove CID, said: “The victim was very brave and fortunately he was not injured before calling for back-up.
“I would appeal to anyone who heard or saw any suspicious activity to please get in touch.”
