Gus Poyet told Brighton and Hove News this morning (Friday 15 March) that he would prefer a corner to a spot-kick.
But he also suggested that in the absence of David Lopez he might like to see Inigo Calderon take his chance from 12 yards. He also added that someone needs to step up if Lopez is not available and that players are staying after training to practice spot-kicks.
He did concede that maybe the Albion haven’t been good enough taking or even saving them.
The Albion boss is hoping that both Wayne Bridge and Vicente Rodriguez will be involved on Sunday (17 March) in a game that he described as the biggest of the season.
Bruno Saltor appears unlikely to be involved.
He was cautious when asked about the chances of George Barker and Jake Forster-Caskey being involved against Palace although he added that Jake may have more of a chance than he realises.
Poyet said that Barker was the only striker available for the bench on Tuesday against Barnsley but he would also assess those coming back from injury when considering Sunday’s line up.
He also appeared a little concerned about the appointment of referee Craig Pawson for the Palace match, saying that he may not be the best choice for such a high-pressure derby game.
