Bolton Wanderers 1 Brighton & Hove Albion 0
Albion lost their first visit to Bolton in almost 20 years. A goal midway through the first half from Marcos Alonso ensured all three points for the home team.
Andrew Crofts hit a post for Albion and he, David Lopez and Vicente Rodriguez all went close for the Seagulls.
Andrea Orlandi had a good chance for the Albion before the end, but it was the sending off of Ashley Barnes for the second time in less than five weeks that could have the biggest implication for the Gus Poyet’s men.
The make-up of the referee’s report will determine if Barnes receives a three or four-match ban.
It is thought Barnes was dismissed for foul and abusive language after a trip on Wanderers’ Jay Spearing.
Poyet will now have little option but to comb the loan market for a striker before next Sunday lunchtime’s clash with arch-rivals Crystal Palace at the Amex.
