A man has died after being attacked on Hove seafront next to the pitch and putt.
Community workers from a homeless project contacted Sussex Police at about 8.30pm last night (Monday 11 February) after finding the body.
Detectives believe that the victim was in his forties and are treating his death as suspicious. They suspect that he knew his killer.
Detective Chief Inspector Ian Pollard, from Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team, said: “A cordon will remain at the scene today (Tuesday 12 February) while forensic examinations are carried out.
“Officers will be making local inquiries and I would urge anyone who has information no matter how relevant they think it is to please get in touch.
“The seafront is a popular area with residents and there will be a visible presence of officers who are happy to answer any concerns locals may have.
“We believe the deceased may have known his attacker and we will therefore be speaking to partner agencies who are active within that community.”
Anyone with information about the man’s death is asked to call Sussex Police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
