Five fire engines were sent to tackle a blaze above a Hove bar in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday 19 June).
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service initially sent three crews when a fire started in the flat above Misty’s cocktail bar in Church Road, Hove.
But the fire service said that two more crews were needed at the scene and Sussex Police had to step in to manage the crowd and control traffic.
The building was evacuated and no injuries were reported.
The fire started at about midnight in a bathroom in the flat and firefighters used an aerial ladder platform as they brought it under control.
Although it was out shortly after 1.30am, crews stayed at the scene until almost 7am. They cut away parts of the building to make sure that the fire hadn’t spread and checked for hot spots.
My son Giovanny is the Senior Bar staff who was instrumental in raising the alarm and ensuring safe evacuation of all guests and staff before the fire service arrived.
Well done Giovanny, we are proud of you.
