Detectives hunting a suspected drugs offender who may be in Brighton have been called by Crimewatch viewers after an appeal was broadcast last night (Thursday 22 March).
West Mercia Police received five calls with significant information about the whereabouts of Robert Gamble, 53.
He absconded after a pack of cocaine worth about £8,000 was removed from his body by doctors at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in January last year.
Police said on the BBC TV programme that Gamble was known to have links to Brighton and Croydon.
Detective Constable Alex Sullivan, of Shrewsbury CID, said: “There was a promising response to last night’s appeal.
“We received five calls with significant information which is being followed up.”
Anyone who can help to trace Gamble is asked to contact Shrewsbury CID on 0300 333 3000.
