Firefighters forced their way into a property in Brighton after neighbours smelt burning and dialled 999.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service sent two crews, from Preston Circus and Roedean, to Sussex Square in Kemp Town just before 6pm yesterday (Sunday 18 March).
They found that the building was smoke-logged because of burnt food.
They spent more than two hours at the property, using an industrial ventilation fan to clear the smoke.
The fire service said: “No one was injured or had to be evacuated.
“More than half of accidental fires at home are started by cooking.
“Many kitchen fires happen when people are not paying attention or they leave things unattended.”
