Three people were arrested for shoplifting in a Brighton shop within 30 minutes yesterday lunchtime (Monday 12 March).
Staff detained the three suspects between 12.30pm and 1pm at Sainsbury’s in St James’s Street, Brighton.
Sussex Police said that a fourth suspect was being hunted on suspicion of stealing from the store at the same time.
Two of the people who were arrested have been charged and given a date to appear in court.
Dawn Smith, 43, of Lower Rock Gardens, Brighton, has been charged with stealing milkshake worth £1.20.
She has been released on police bail to appear at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Monday 16 April.
Michael Deegan, 60, of no fixed address, has been charged with the theft of meat valued at £18.67.
He has also been charged with stealing food worth £27.36 from Sainsbury’s in Western Road on Thursday 2 February.
He is being kept in custody and was due to appear before Brighton magistrates today (Tuesday 13 March).
A 24-year-old man from Henfield was arrested on suspicion stealing milkshake worth £1.20.
He was released on police bail until next Tuesday (20 March) while inquiries continue.
Sussex Police said that the fourth suspect is known to officers. He is believed to have stolen fabric softener from the St James’s Street branch of Sainsbury’s.
