A man who obstructed a Hove driveway with his car has been ordered to pay a fine and costs totalling £500.
Robin Smith was convicted of the parking offence in Nevill Road, Hove, at Brighton Magistrates’ Court.
Smith, of West Hyde Road, Luton, did not turn up for the hearing on Thursday 19 January.
PC Julian Harrison-Jones, of Sussex Police, said: “Smith parked his car on the pavement across a driveway in Nevill Road at the junction of Woodland Drive on 11 February last year.
“This obstructed not only a driveway, but also road users’ views of a busy pedestrian crossing used by large numbers of school children.
“The Nevill Road area has for a number of years had issues with inconsiderate parking.
“Wherever possible, officers try to educate drivers. However, on occasions enforcement is the only option available.”
Smith was initially issued a £30 fixed penalty notice for causing an unnecessary obstruction.
He asked for an opportunity to contest the charge in court. He was fined £325 and ordered to pay costs of £175 and a victim surcharge of £15.
