By Tim Hodges from the Amex Press Briefing.
Gus Poyet said this morning that the areas Albion need to improve on and strengthen were midfield and upfront
He added though that a lot of the players who fitted the role he wants , were just too expensive .
On a morning where certain internet rumours suggested Craig Mackail-Smith was unhappy, Poyet (though not in direct reference) applauded CMS’s work rate and recent performances adding, he thinks the player will stay with Albion for the length of his contract and will score goals.
On Saturdays opponents Wrexham, Poyet commented that he thought the Welsh team would enjoy a trip to the Amex, adding that though it was unlikely Albion would win the trophey, but he respected it as the worlds oldest cup competition.
Although he joked, he has considered naming his development squad as the starting eleven, but did say Ben Sampayo would be involved on Saturday in the eighteen, plus also Yasser Kasim , Anton Rodgers and Toby Adgestein. He also commnted on newcomer to the first team Grant Hall discussing his versitility as defender, but said he reminds all young players it matter not, what you have done for the last 10 years, but what you do now, at 3pm on a Saturday.
Finally I asked the Albion boss re trailists Lafferty and Habbibou, he told me that since the appointment of a new head of football operations eveything effectivly reverts to zero (re trialists) but that the club were still keeping tabs on both players.
