A man sexually assaulted a woman as she was heading towards Brighton Station early yesterday (Sunday 23 October).
The attack happened at about 7am when a man grabbed the 36-year-old Lewes woman as she walked along Temple Street into Montpelier Place, Brighton.
The attacker was described as a skinny mixed race man in his late twenties with short black hair and wearing a dark jacket and blue jeans.
He sexually assaulted his victim who was wearing dark clothes and a red coat and has dyed red streaks in her black hair.
Detective Inspector Jason Tingley said: “The woman was able to fight off her attacker and this appears to be an isolated incident.
“We are urging anyone with information to come forward.”
Anyone who saw the incident or who has any information about it is asked to call Sussex Police on 0845 6070999.
Dont you think this might be in breach of the Sexual Offences (Amendment) Act 1992 which states that that after an allegation of a sex offence is made it is illegal to include in any publication that could lead to her identification. She is from Lewis, Described age clothes and red streaks in black hair. If it was my neighbour I would know who they were talking about.
Thanks, Peter. Sussex Police released these details. The physical description was given out for the purpose of trying to jog the memory of any potential witnesses to help identify the perpetrator. We have reported these in good faith. This is one of those instances where a balance needs to be struck – and we hope that if we have erred, it is on the side of the interests of justice. We are always interested to hear other people’s views on these sensitive questions.
Turns out the assault didn’t even take place! If it is your neighbour, she’s a liar!
