A mentally ill killer from Brighton has been reported missing from the secure unit where he was being treated.
Steven Dunne, 42, who lived at Chates Farm Road, in the Hanover area of Brighton, stabbed Gordon Stalker to death at the door of his home in Elm Grove, Brighton.
Dunne was reported missing after failing to return to Southview Low Secure Unit in Hellingly near Hailsham at about 5pm yesterday (Wednesday 28 September).
He was receiving treatment at the unit after being convicted of manslaughter by diminished responsibility and ordered by the court to be detained under the Mental Health Act.
Detective Inspector Rob Morland said: “We are concerned for Steven’s welfare and would urge him to get in touch.
“We believe Steven to be in the Brighton area and neighbourhood officers are working with partnership agencies to locate Steven.
“If you see Steven, please contact police immediately.”
A spokesman from the Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust said: “Mr Dunne has been assessed by his clinical team and poses a low risk to himself and to the public.
“However, it is important he takes regular medication and will need to return to hospital as soon as possible.”
Dunne is described as white northern European, 5ft 4in tall, with short brown hair, blue eyes and a stocky build.
He was wearing a red t-shirt, black trousers and blue trainers.
Dunne or anyone who sees someone matching his description is asked to contact Sussex Police on 0845 6070999.
