Gus Poyet commented on how surprised people might be that the Albion take on pre-season favourites Leicester on Saturday with the Seagulls flying high at the top of the league and the Foxes nearer mid table.
The Albion boss is mindful of the strength of the Midlands club in playing staff and, of course, management, and he spoke about Sven Goran Eriksson’s massive experience and the role Jermaine Beckford might play on Saturday.
Will Hoskins moves nearer to fitness every day, and Poyet went on to say how focused young defender Lewis Dunk will need to be on Saturday.
When asked by Brighton and Hove News if he was aware of the superb feel-good factor within the city of Brighton and Hove regarding the Albion, even from those people who may not have much interest in football, he responded to me by saying that he and that he enjoyed what people think about him and the team but he needs to stay in control and make sure the players focused for training at 10.30am every day and for 3pm on match days.
He also commented on how well Liam Bridcutt had performed so far this season and that if teams did try to adapt and counter the Albion’s style of play he could easily change the way Albion set up.
Poyet admitted towards the end of the session that he would love to manage Uruguay one day but before that he would need to mix with the stars, those earning over a £100,000 a week at a top-class club.
I am sure Albion fans everywhere would agree with me in saying that we hope that’s not for a good while yet.
