A Portslade man defrauded his own mother of more than £90,000 while she languished in a care home.
Craig Clark, 38, of Melrose Avenue, admitted abusing his position of trust to defraud his mother when he appeared at Chichester Crown Court.
Clark, who held power of attorney on behalf of his mother, was jailed for three years on Friday (19 August).
The court was told that his mother was living in a nursing home but staff reported that she was not receiving money for her basic personal needs.
They also said that her care bills were not being paid.
Clark was reported to Sussex Police and he was arrested in July last year and charged in five months ago.
Detective Constable Fiona Salkield, from the Sussex Police Adult Protection Team, said: “Clark was placed in a position of trust when he took over as power of attorney over his mother’s estate due to her deteriorating health.
“He abused this trust and left his mother without some of the most basic comforts in order to financially gain himself.”
