Work has started on the foundations for the giant ferris wheel planned for Brighton seafront.
And the company behind the Brighton Wheel – Paramount Attractions – was today given permission to use part of the pavement at Dalton’s Bastion in Madeira Drive.
The “highways” approval was granted by a Brighton and Hove City Council panel of councillors and comes three months after the wheel was given planning permission.
The 150ft wheel, which will sit about 100 yards east of the Palace Pier, is expected to open next month.
Several people living and working in the area raised objections to Paramount’s formal request to use part of the pavement in Madeira Drive.
A report to councillors said that there had been 22 representations about the application for highways permission but the panel rejected the concerns that they raised.
