Staff at Sussex University are used to receiving feedback for the way they teach thousands of students in their teens, twenties and beyond.
But today staff at the university are celebrating praise for their work with two to five-year-olds.
Sussex University Nursery, which caters for 36 pre-school children on the Falmer campus, has been rated outstanding by Ofsted, the independent official watchdog.
An inspector from Ofsted (the Office for Standards in Education) gave the pre-school the highest possible mark for its standard of care.
She said: “Overall the quality of the provision is outstanding.”
The report added: “The staff team have highly effective systems, outstanding knowledge of the children’s uniqueness and exceptional interactions which enable the children to become playful and independent learners.
“They have challenging, enriching experiences and a wealth of great opportunities.
“The children were extremely happy, confident and caring and received a high level of support.”
