A 47-year-old man from Hove has been arrested in a police raid that recovered five bikes – thought to have been stolen – and £56,000 cash.
Sussex Police said that the raid followed an investigation into a series of bicycle thefts in the Hove area over recent weeks.
Detective Constable Nigel Roberts said: “The investigation into the recent bicycle thefts is ongoing and I am keen to speak to other victims.
“I’d urge anyone with information to contact police immediately.”
The man was held on suspicion of theft and money laundering after the raid which took place at about 3pm on Tuesday 23 July.
He was released on police bail pending further inquiries until Thursday 6 October.
Alongside the investigative work taking place, police said that were keen for owners to take the necessary preventative measures and invest time and money in properly securing their bicycles.
PC Vicky Jones said: “Bicycles are more than a mode of transport.
“They’re unique personal possessions that usually cost the owner a lot of money.
“Neighbourhood officers are speaking to local residents to encourage owners to be vigilant when securing their bicycles both in public places and outside their homes.
“Ideally bicycles should be locked away indoors but alternatively owners should invest in a high-quality lock that will provide proper security for their property.”
