A Brighton scientist who helps clean up contaminated water in developing countries around the world has been promoted to professor.
Dr Huw Taylor has been given the title Professor of Microbial Ecology at Brighton University.
The university said that his promotion is in recognition of his “sustained academic leadership and international professional standing in the field of water pollution and waterborne disease control”.
This year Professor Taylor has been to cholera-stricken Haiti and to Malawi to help treat contaminated water supplies.
He said: “We have shown that our research can have significant impact on human wellbeing.
“And our active involvement in tackling global waterborne disease problems has considerable appeal to students wishing to develop careers in this fascinating and important field.”
