Two men – one armed with a gun – held up and robbed a Co-op shop in Brighton as two security guards were delivering cash.
The armed robbery happened at the Co-op in Lustrells Vale, Saltdean, at midday today (Monday 4 July).
Sussex Police said that a man in a motorbike helmet threatened one of security guards with a gun as the pair were about to top up a cash machine.
The armed man made off with a cash box.
His accomplice rode a motorbike on to the pavement outside the shop and went inside armed with a crowbar.
They marched the security guards out to their delivery van and the gunman tried to get into the van.
But he was foiled by another security guard inside as she set off an alarm.
The armed robbers fled on their motorbike.
Detective Sergeant Julie Greenwood said: “Although the security guards were threatened with a firearm they were not injured.
“There were a number of people seen entering this store who we would like to trace along with anyone who saw a black motorcycle in the area being driven suspiciously with a rider and pillion passenger.
“The rider of the motorcycle was wearing a black sweat top and dark jogging bottoms and a black helmet.
“The other man was dressed in jeans, a black jacket and wore a red and white motorcycle helmet.”
