Three men were arrested after a police officer stepping in to break up a fight was attacked in Brighton.
The officer was in a patrol car when he spotted the fight between three men in the Old Steine in the early hours of Wednesday morning (22 June).
He called for an ambulance for one of the men shortly before 4.30am but the other two then turned on him.
Other officers attended and all of the men were arrested, including one who fled the scene but who was chased and detained.
One man was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton for treatment to a head wound.
He was released into the custody of Sussex Police a short while later.
A 19-year-old man from Falmer was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer and has been bailed until Friday 29 July.
Another 19-year-old man from Falmer was arrested on suspicion of affray and has been bailed until Thursday 21 July.
A 21-year-old man from Cricklewood, London, was arrested on suspicion of assault causing actual bodily harm and a racially aggravated public order offence.
He was released on police bail until Thursday 28 July.
