A 58-year-old man died last night after a crash on the Brighton bypass in Hangleton.
The victim, from Worthing, was believed to be on his way home when the accident happened on the westbound side of the road.
Sussex Police said that his car is thought to have broken down and he is waiting nearby when he was struck by another car.
The victim died at the scene while a 35-year-old man from Brighton was taken to Worthing Hospital for treatment for minor injuries.
He has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
The accident happened at about 10.20pm yesterday.
