CB40, Hove
Sussex 199-2 beat Derbyshire 196-8 by 8 wickets
By Jack Bradshaw
Sussex crushed Derbyshire at Hove to secure their third successive CB40 victory and go top of their league.
The Sharks romped to a convincing eight-wicket win to replace their opponents on the day at the top of the table.
The hosts elected to bowl first and the decision was vindicated as the Falcons could only muster 196-8 from their 40 overs.
Skipper Michael Yardy was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3-46 including the key wickets of Wes Durston for 85 and Wayne Madsen (40).
Derbyshire slipped from 164-3 to 170-8 as Sussex took a stranglehold on the game, with Chris Liddle, Rana Naved and Monty Panesar also picking up wickets.
The in-form opening partnership of Ed Joyce (90) and Chris Nash (78) were in the runs again as the Sharks cruised to 161 without loss, before Chesney Hughes dismissed both men short of their centuries.
Fans at the Probiz County Ground were treated to their first glimpse of Lou Vincent, as the New Zealander faced his first 11 balls for Sussex, hitting a six to give the crowd a taste of things to come this summer.
Rana Naved hit his only ball to the boundary to round off a convincing victory with almost ten overs to spare.
