Husband and wife team Jason and Ania Kitcat have held Regency for the Greens, with former ward councillor Sven Rufus switching from Regency to Hollingdean and Stanmer.
Jason Kitcat won his seat in a by-election almost four years ago but he polled slightly fewer votes than his wife.
She attracted more than 1,000 votes more than the pair’s nearest rival, Labour candidate James Asser.
She said: “We’ve worked so hard, so it makes all the hard work worth it – just to be elected in the first place is great.”
Green councillor Jason Kitcat said his wife deserved more votes because she is “better looking”.
He added: ” I think people are not satisfied with the Coalition and where they get an opportunity to vote Greens, they will.
“We’ve had people stop us in the street and say they wish they could vote for us.
“We hope to continue to serve the people of Regency for the next four years.”
Some have tipped Jason Kitcat as a future leader of the Green group.

Well now the Green run Brighton I’m particularly looking forward to the 10% council tax rise to pay for ‘environmental initiatives’ (Caroline Lucas’s Compost heap), zero cuts (ie setting an illegal budget) and Brighton becoming the ‘hub of resistance’ as promised in the Green manifesto and leaflets!
