Property owners in the Brighton and Hove area are being offered free electricity worth up to £4,000 a year.
The offer comes from Brighton Energy Co-op which wants to install solar panels on a small number of big south-facing roofs.
Damian Tow, project director at Brighton Energy Co-op, said that he and his colleagues were aiming to install 300kW of community-owned solar panels.
He said: “Brighton Energy Co-op is seeking two or three more large roofs for hosting solar panels as part of our community-owned solar power station project.
“We need flat or south-facing pitched roofs with greater than a 600 square metre ‘footprint’ either on one roof or spread over a number of adjoining roofs.”
Mr Tow said that the solar panels would be fitted and hosted at no significant cost to the property owners.
In addition they would receive all free electricity generated on site worth about £4,000 a year for 25 years.
He added: “We would be very happy to hear from any publicly or privately owned suitable buildings in Brighton or further afield in Sussex.”
