Four people have been charged with assault and public order offences after the May Day protests in Brighton at the weekend.
They were among eight people arrested on Saturday (30 April) when about 200 protesters held a demonstration in the town centre.
The four are
- Michael Cutting, 28, of Hanover Terrace, Brighton, who was charged with refusing to remove a face mask when asked by a police officer and having items used to destroy or damage property
- Jorge Lagar, 25, of Over Street, Brighton, who was charged with assaulting a police officer
- Owen Leweis, 30, from Biggin Hill, Westerham, Kent, who was charged with assault and obstructing an officer in his line of duty
- Madeleine Hayes, 22, of London Road, Macclesfield, Cheshire, who was charged with refusing to remove a face mask when asked by an officer
All four are due to appear at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Friday 20 May.
