Two people suspected of murdering a 48-year-old Brighton man can be questioned for a further 36 hours after a hearing before magistrates.
The 32-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman, both from Brighton, were arrested in Winchester, Hampshire, on Saturday (16 April) on suspicion of the murder of Jon Ellison.
They were due to be charged or released yesterday evening but detectives applied to magistrates for more time to question the couple.
They were granted permission and now have until about 8.30am tomorrow (Wednesday 20 April).
Mr Ellison was found dead in his ground floor flat in Gloucester Street in the North Laine area of Brighton just after 2am on Friday (15 April).
Detective Inspector Carwyn Hughes said: “We are still keen to hear from anyone else who was in or around Gloucester Street in the North Laine area of the city centre on Thursday evening or the early hours of Friday morning and who saw anything suspicious.”
Anyone who can help is urged to contact Sussex Police on 0845 6070999 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
