A convent in Brighton is to close after the retirement of the remaining two nuns who live there.
The Lourdes convent in Harrington Road, near Preston Park, has served the area since 1904, with the nuns caring for the homeless and running a school next to the convent.
The convent was established by the Sisters of Charity and ran St Bernadette’s Catholic Primary School in Preston Road.
The last two nuns are Sister Margaret Mary, who is moving to the order’s convent in Blackburn, Lancashire, while Sister Theresa is retiring to Dublin.
A mass and a lunch were held to honour the pair on Sunday.
