Fire crews were called out to kitchen fires and in response to smoke alarms three times over the weekend in Brighton and Hove.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said that the call-outs underlined the perils of overcooked food.
The most recent call-out came early yesterday evening (17 April) at 6.36pm.
An elderly set off the smoke alarm at her home in Ingram Crescent, Hove, when she overcooked a jacket potato in her microwave oven.
The smoke from the microwave set off the smoke alarm which alerted a 24-hour community alarm service, who contacted the emergency services.
Three fire engines were sent to deal with the incident.
Hove Crew Manager Mark Petty said: “Once again we would remind people to be extra vigilant when cooking and to follow appliance instructions and not to get distracted while cooking.
“On this occasion no one was injured. However, in different circumstances it could have been much more serious.”
A fan was used to blow smoke from the building.
Other incidents over the past few days include one in High Street, Rottingdean, yesterday (Sunday 17 April) at 2.09am.
Four fire engines and an aerial ladder platform were sent to an incident where a pan of food had caught fire.
And on Friday (15 April) at 10.36am two crews were sent to Sherbourne Road, Hangleton, after food had been overcooked.
