The water company that serves Brighton and Hove has teamed up with an animated film star to encourage people to save water.
Southern Water has linked with Rango, the hero of the eponymous new Hollywood film.
Rango is a chameleon who saves a town’s water supply from the film’s villains.
Now he has become the face of a campaign being supported by Southern and ten other water companies.
Southern Water customers can take part in a competition to win a holiday to Las Vegas and some Rango merchandise by visiting www.southernwater.co.uk/rango.
Geoff Loader, Southern Water’s director of communications, said: “To have 11 water companies, with a total of 20 million customers, supported by such a fun character backs our aim of having everyone in the UK working together to reduce the waste of water in this country.
“We all use around 150 litres of water every day and even a small reduction in that use will benefit the environment, the energy used by water companies and the energy we use in our homes.”
Southern said that, by 2015, the water savings that companies were expected to make by meeting water efficiency targets and reducing leakage would amount to more than 100 billion litres a year.
That is enough water to supply the cities of Brighton, Bristol and Liverpool for more than a year.
