A man has been charged after an attempted street robbery in Lewes Crescent, Kemp Town, shortly before 6am today (Wednesday 23 March).
During the attempted mugging a man was hit over the head with a bottle.
The victim, who is from Newhaven, managed to chase the would-be mugger away.
The victim was taken to hospital for treatment.
Lewes Crescent was closed while officers carried out forensic searches.
Bradley Hughes, 28, of Slindon Avenue, Peacehaven, has been charged with attempted robbery, causing grievous bodily harm with intent and having an offensive weapon.
Hughes has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Brighton Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (Thursday 24 March).
