A man in his mid-thirties was seriously injured in a hit and run incident in Brighton yesterday morning (Saturday 19 March).
A Volvo estate car struck the victim in Widdicombe Way, Moulsecoomb, and then demolished a wall before coming to rest.
The driver ran off before police and paramedics arrived, shortly before noon.
The victim, who comes from Lancing, was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton where his condition was described as serious though not life-threatening.
Roads in the area were closed while rescue and recovery work took place and the Volvo was taken off for forensic examination.
At about 2.30pm yesterday, a 21-year-old man from Hove handed himself in at John Street police station in Brighton.
He was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and leaving the scene of an accident.
