A 19-year-old woman was the victim of a sexual assault after she left a Brighton nightclub in the early hours of Saturday, March 5.
The assault happened after 3am when the woman was walking from the Tru nightclub in West Street towards Funky Buddha on the Lower Esplanade near Ship Street.
Detective Sergeant Chris Sherwell said: “This was a terrible ordeal for the victim who had been out with friends but found herself on her own for a short time when she went back to the Tru club alone.
“Somewhere between these two nightclubs she was pushed against a wall by a man and assaulted.
“There was a struggle and fortunately a passer by intervened allowing the victim to escape.
“We would urgently like to hear from the member of public who came to the victim’s aid and anyone else who may have witnessed the attack. ”
The young woman is white with shoulder length brown hair.
She was wearing shimmery gold trousers.
The suspect is described as around 5’7″ and may be dark skinned.
Police are appealing for witnesses to please come forward and particularly wish to speak to the man who intervened to help the victim.

Police are not linking this incident to the rape of a 17-year-old girl in Dyke Road Park on Tuesday, February 15.
