A Brighton man raped a woman while he was on the run from police and subjected her to a terrifying ordeal.
He blackmailed the 27-year-old Brighton woman over a number of months, demanding increasing sums of money.
Now Tobias Kingsley Dynes has been sentenced to 13½ years in prison for rape, blackmail and perverting the course of justice.
Dynes, 29, of Frederick Gardens Brighton, was jailed yesterday (Monday 21 February) by a judge at Lewes Crown Court after a week-long trial.
He became so violent in his threats towards the mother of three and her children that she fled with them to Liverpool.
Detective Constable Robin Aspin, from Brighton CID, said: “I am pleased with the sentence that Dynes received today for the catalogue of crimes he has committed.
“Dynes is a violent and manipulative man who deserves to be put away for some time.
“It has been a lengthy investigation by Sussex Police into what has been a terrifying ordeal for the victim who has shown the utmost strength and courage throughout.”
After going into hiding in Liverpool, Dynes’s victim reported him to Sussex Police.
Detectives immediately began a full investigation during which Dynes continued his campaign of threats to try to make his victim withdraw her statements to police.
DC Aspin said: “Any allegations of rape are always fully investigated and we continue to support victims to ensure that justice is carried out and in doing so our communities are that bit safer.
“I would like to thank the other agencies involved who worked hard over a long period to bring Dynes to justice and the staff who helped support the victim throughout the judicial process.”
The victim would like to express her thanks and gratitude to Detective Constable Jon Freeman for his continued help and support throughout the investigation.
