Hove Conservative MP Mike Weatherley is claiming victory in his campaign to have Brighton dropped from the postal address for Portslade.
He said that for years the Royal Mail had placed Portslade within the postal town of Brighton.
This was despite the two areas lying five miles apart and not even sharing a border.
Mr Weatherley wrote a letter to chief executive Moya Greene who said that residents can now ignore its administrative guidelines.
The surrounding towns of Hove, Lancing, Peacehaven and Shoreham are all classified as their own postal towns.
Yet, when asking the Royal Mail for an address via its website, the result always comes back with “Portslade, Brighton”.
